I made “Work Week” [Quicktime or YouTube] during the first five days of June, 2007, at the Grand Teton Climbers’ Ranch, in Northwestern Wyoming. The GTCR is a rustic hostel/hangout spot for Teton climbers, run on a tiny budget by the American Alpine Club. Because of the harsh weather, the ranch is only open from June through September; and because of that slim budget, the ranch depends on the labor of volunteers for everything from roofing to painting to trail-building to creaky-door-repair. One of my favorite things about the ranch is the wide variety of climbers it attracts — from kids to elders who’ve been going there for generations, and from weekend warriors to full-time climbing bums to others who’ve abandoned their homes and careers to get a little more perspective.
